I bought this vent hood to replace a 25 year old vented hood that was "past its prime" by about 15 years. It was noisy and the light was dim..
THIS VENTED HOOD, is amazing. It was falling-off-a-log simple to install, looks beautiful, has tremendous airflow and the lights are "stupid bright". As an added bonus, the fan on this unit is whisper quiet. On low speed you can barely hear it, yet it pulls a LOT of air. On high speed, the fan is moving 400 cubic feet of air per minute (!!) yet it only makes a fraction of the noise of the unit it replaced
The unit does not come with an electric cord - presumably because some people have an electric outlet ready and some will want to "hard wire it in. Because our home previously had a range hood, we ordered the electric cord that plugs into the wall (standard 120v outlet in the cupboard above our range)
This unit does not come with lams for the lighting system. The literature included with the hood recommended 50 watt halogen lamps. Because halogen lamps use a lot of electricity and create a lot of heat, I opted to use LED bulbs ( 3-pack of 5 watt, dimmable LED bulbs from Lowes set me back about $12) and they are exceptionally bright on the high intensity setting. Even on the low intensity setting, they are 5X brighter than the single lamp our previous hood had.
Another really cool feature of this hood is that the entire underside (facing down toward the range) is covered by aluminum grease trapping filter material. And... because of the way its designed... the large 10" fan draws air from the entire hood surface, not a tiny bit in the center as our previous hood did
Summary: This vented range hood is a tremendous buy! Excellent quality, great features, easy to install and it LOOKS AND WORKS BEAUTIFULLY
Just got this installed today and it took my handyman several hours to do it. Not the fault of the Range Hood, just that the 30 year old range hood we were replacing had been done badly and he had to re-rig a lot of stuff to get this in. The fan is very quiet and has two speeds, the faster speed being a bit noiser than the slow speed of course. I love that the lights (which must be bought separately) have two levels of brightness. My only complaint, is the same one most people had with this range hood and this brand. It arrived dented, right in the middle of the front. I used a rubber hammer and washcloth to try to un-dent it but that didn't fix it. I decided I could live with the dent as it is only really noticeble from a side angle and not so much from the straight on view. It is ridiculous the way this was packaged. Two styrofoam protectors on each end and absolutely no protection to the front or the back or top or bottom of the unit, except the cardboard box around it. Because of lack of protection it was dented in front and one of the grease screens on the bottom was bent pretty good. I was able to straighten the screen out pretty well and the bent part isn't noticeable under the hood, but it should have been packaged decently for shipping and was not. I would likely have given this 5 stars except for the fact that almost every review has commented on the bad packaging and the resulting dents. Shame on the manufacturer for being so thoughtless and lazy about this.
Really love this range hood. Replaced a (probably) 20 year old Broan hood that was super noisy. I was able to remove the old unit and install this unit on a Saturday afternoon and evening, figuring in breaks to run to the hardware store and spend time with the family. We've been using it for a little more than a month now and I'd say I'm very satisfied with it. It's not perfect, which is why I gave a 4 star rating, but if I could give it 4.5 stars I would.
Things I like:
- Really quiet. We used to have to yell to be heard when the old hood was turned on. Even on high, this hood doesn't impede us from talking and on low I can barely hear it.
- Seems to move air as well, if not better than, our old one. Fine for typical cooking needs.
- Simple, stylish look. I especially like having filters that cover the whole underside. I was pretty disgusted when I took the old unit down and found layers of grease and bugs that had collected around the small, single filter that was there before. I anticipate that it will be easier to keep this unit clean.
- Price. After comparing units online and at home stores, this unit seemed to offer more features at a better price point. The only feature lacking was LED (see below).
Things that could be improved:
- It would be nice if this were LED compatible. I used the halogen bulbs they recommended to ensure use of the dimming feature, but the halogens get SUPER hot. Between heat from cooking and the bulbs, the top of the hood gets pretty freaking hot. Even with just the bulbs on, you wouldn't want to place your hand on top of the hood for very long. So far, as long as I don't put my hand on the hood (which one doesn't really have need to do anyway), it's been fine.
- I didn't bother using the "easy install" strips because, when installed they hold the hood down an additional 1/16 of an inch. Maybe I'm anal, but I didn't want any more of a gap between the top of the hood and bottom of the cabinet than is already present because of the irregularities in the sheet metal. As a result, getting the ductwork fitting placed correctly and putting the hood up on my own was a pain, but I made it work in the end.
- The unit arrived with a dent in the top-middle of the exposed, slanted face, which I presume happened during shipping. It wasn't so bad that I wanted to go through the hassle of repackaging and returning the unit I got, but I was annoyed that it arrived damaged. I don't really notice the dent now unless I'm looking for it. I guess that's the risk you take when buying things online.
Overall, I'd recommend this hood. Hope this review was helpful.
Works as designed. Great options for venting. Lighter than expected. Did not use brackets for "one person" install. Found instructions bit complicated. Just had second person help feed the power wires through and mark the mounting holes. Once done, rest was easy to complete. Low speed is very quiet. Bulbs not included as stated. Overall look is great. Price is decent for it's CFM rating.

Tricky to hook up the gas. Ended up using a 5/8 yellow gas line connector kit. It seems like it will take a 1/2 inch MIP but be careful it will only thread on 1/2 turn. Also it takes a d cell to create the spark, so that has to be maintained over time.
I built an outdoor kitchen on my patio with this and very happy with the unit. The big burner in back on low was almost too hot to cook my bacon and the front on medium was perfect. I was worried abut the BTU's but not anymore. Very light weight and an easy install with some ½” gal and a flare fitting. I highly recommend this product.
I was really excited about the look of this stove, but after 2 propane tanks (both working on other stoves), 3 different regulators, and multiple attempts at re-connecting each many times, it was time to give up. Incredibly disappointed it didn't work out. When I contacted the company, they said that the regulator they provide with the product doesn't work with most high pressured propane tanks, which seems odd that you'd provide something that most likely will not work. After three chats with them, I got my money back, which I'm grateful for. I still wish it had worked!
