Very nice upgrade in our kitchen for a very great value. Really impressed with how shiny & beautiful it looks in my kitchen. Elevates a basic range hood for sure. If you’re thinking about getting this - do it!
My parents have a really old Broan, non stainless, and they never cleaned it to the point where I was fed up with the look and dirtiness of it and decided to get them a new one. I didn't want to spend a lot of money for a replacement so I came across this one. Taking it out of the box it was very lightweight, which is good if your installing it alone like I did. It doesn't feel cheap or expensive...perfect for me. I had to mod the vent hole in the cabinets due to the vent location for the other one, but other than modding the cabine vent hole, it was a fairly easy install, probably more easy if I had someone or a 2x4 holding up the hood. Looks great and works great and I don't have to look at the old greasy looking non stainless one ever again. Installing it, expect to have scratches but try and limit it to the covered portion like the sides and the top, just FYI.
I saw lots of reviews that said the fan was too loud on the highest setting but I didn't have this problem at all. If it is on high to remove the smoke when cooking, it doesn't seem like a big deal to me anyway... Very nice looking and a perfect replacement for my old fan during our home renovations 😁
Fairly basic hood but exactly what I was looking for. Looks decent when installed. Most big box home improvement stores no longer carry much of a selection of basic range hoods. Most of their hoods are higher end, automatic fancy units. Unlike some of the reviewers, I thought the fan noise was completely acceptable however I agree that the cover for the light bulb was a bit cheezie. Some reviewers mentioned that the light cover "melted" from the heat the light bulb produced so I ended up using an LED bulb which runs much cooler than a normal incandescent bulb does. I would buy another one.
I bought this to replace a similar range hood that's been in our house ever since we bought it 26 years ago. Old one was almond painted, and although it still worked well, it was starting to really look like crap, with paint worn off the edges and corners. And its underside was filthy despite being cleaned every now and then. Plus it no longer matched our stainless stove, microwave or dishwasher. This one is pretty much the same size as the old one, with the same light and two speed fan. Simple, and I didn't want any fancy crap or a larger unit as we have a limited amount of space. Also hooks up the same was as the old one. Surprisingly (given that some of the reviews complain about the noise), it is much quieter than the old one. Also, of course (since it's new) it looks a whole hell of a lot better. Otherwise, it's pretty much about the same as the old one. If this one lasts 26 years, it will outlast my wife and myself. And it is amazingly affordable. Definitely gets five stars from me.

The Broan 403004 30 In. Stainless Steel Ducted Range Hood out-performs the competition whether ducted vertically or horizontally. The sides are mitered and the bottom edge hemmed, with no sharp edges for safety and good looks. The enclosed light and fan/filter assemblies make for easy cleaning. The unit has a two-speed fan switch with separate light switch and the motor is permanently lubricated.
Initial Review
The product came in excellent shape with no dings or dents (I bought the stainless steel one). I also purchased the additional cord for power which I wired up per the instructions with ease.
The only thing I had a bit of fun doing was the punch outs for the vent and electrical but this was probably due to me not having the right tool.
Fit perfectly, light worked, fan was pretty powerful on high and had an expected noise level. Changing the vent is easy you just turn it and the light is a full size light bulb which is great for not having to turn on your full room light at night.
I wish there were more flexibility in where the wires come through on the back...of course, the wire connections were on the left, as you look at the unit from the back, and we needed them on the right...our wiring had NO give it to move it over. I ended up extending the hoods wires to the other side of the fan myself and drilling a hole through the metal on the back on the correct side to accommodate them.
Does not hold the standard that you would expect for a fan. The motor is cheesy loud and it doesn't suck out a lot on low you have to put it on high and it's very noisy. The main structure of the unit is good quality it's just the motor is cheesy. It does get the smell out or take the heat out as it should it's just noisy. I have a small kitchen dining area and you cannot leave it on when people are eating at the table. The last one I had had a huge motor in it and it was excellent and it wasn't loud. But as usual they make everything so cheesy and it only works to benefit the problem but it doesn't work to accommodate the customer.
Love it...it has everything I wanted, vents out the back or the top, stainless steel matches my stove and fridge. The only downside was the top was all dented and there was a dent on the front. Figured the ones on the top were easy to fix and are hidden. It was just shipped in it's box, no extra packaging incase it got thrown around. The box it comes in was flimsy and offers no protection. If they had of just put in some paper it would of protected it better.
Upon installation, the hood looks decent. But there have been many comments about the condition of the product when delivered. Plenty of comments that the packaging could be improved. The entire top of mine was bashed in when recieved, although once installed, this is not visible. Since I saw the previous comments and ordered anyways, I just bent it back into shape. Even though this is a "lower end" fairly basic unit, it should be packaged better.
