I bought this vent hood on Aug 9th and it just got installed 3 weeks ago (as most construction projects go. Considering I live in a small apartment with a tiny kitchen I still bought this "powerful" hood knowing we do a lot of cooking and it would be nice to have. The first time we started cooking and smoke started to rise, I put this on speed 4 (highest). I kid you not...the smoke literally rises and goes AROUND the hood. It makes a lot of noise, but does NOTHING. It's not even powerful enough to suck in the smoke that is rising underneath it. What a joke. Now what do I do? Outside the 30 day window...already paid my contractor to mount it....what a complete waste of money. I'll never buy ZLINE again. I suggest you don't either.
I ordered the unit in July, a few weeks ahead of the remodeling schedule. As soon as it arrived we opened the box and read all the paperwork and took some measurements. We started the remodel in August and the last step was the installation of this hood. When I turned t on it was very noisy and it was obvious from the vibration that we had either a bent shaft on the motor or an out of balance fan wheel. There are two fan wheels on this unit. I have a background in the HVAC trades and industrial HVAC equipment sales so I knew it was the unit and not me. I began dealing with the manufacturer directly and spent a couple weeks trouble shooting and partially disassembling the unit to reposition and tighten the fan wheels. This was not fun or easy and it did not solve the issues. In September it was determined that the unit was defective and not repairable by me. The manufacturer did not want the unit back and asked me to work with Amazon to return it. My return window had long since closed but I opened a chat window with Amazon and they agreed to take it back. I was quoted an 80% refund but promised it would be adjusted to 100% once the unit was returned. After telling the manufacturer that the unit had been accepted for return by Amazon the manufacturer offered to test a unit at the warehouse to make sure it was not defective and to send me a video of it being tested. This was done in short order and I paid the manufacturer for the new unit. They waived the shipping fee and I got it in about a week on the 12th of OCTOBER. I removed the first hood and put both hoods on the dining room table to run them side by side before installing the replacement hood. The new hood was very quiet and the old hood sounded like someone was pounding on the table with a hammer. I packed the old hood in the new box and Amazon credited my account immediately on notification of shipping but for only 80% of the original price. I am waiting to take that up with Amazon after they receive the unit. I think if you are going to buy this hood you should work directly with the manufacturer from the start. Test the unit as soon as you get it! it is easy to unbox and plug in. Just keep your hands away from the fan discharge or you could wreck some fingers. Just a safety alert. I didn't wreck any of my fingers. Good luck! Also, read a bunch of the other reviews. Lots of good info contained in many of them.
After reading good reviews and liking the overall color and shape of this vent hood, I took a chance on it for our kitchen remodel. It came well packaged and all the steel was covered with protective plastic.
Our remodel team read the installation directions and put it up, including cutting a hole in the wall since we did not have the stove in this spot in the old kitchen. It came with two options for the stack. They used this one (the other one had vent slits). The vent hood base attaches to studs in the wall with two large bolts. Then the stack sits on the top. Behind the stack, there is an outlet our electrician installed and the plug for the hood. Also there is a plastic, accordion style tube that vents air from the stove to the outside of the house. The building inspector was not sure the plastic tube was good enough for fire code because usually you use a metal version, in case your cooking catches fire and gets sucked through the tube. A plastic tube could melt and allow fire into the walls. The contractor put fire insulation spray between the tube and the wall. The inspector said it was alright. We looked for written proof that this meets code but didn't find it.
The vent hood looks nice. I polish the steel with a little bit of baby oil on a microfiber cloth to remove grime and finger prints. I wasn't sure I liked the edge with protruding buttons. But I am used to it now and like the overall look of the vent hood.
The cost was better than anything I saw at my local store. The cost of installation exceeded the cost of the hood.
The light and fan might make this a 4 star hood. But I don't want to knock it since I have nothing to compare it to. The lighting is very important to me because it lights what I am cooking more than my overhead lighting. There are two small lights coming down. It's good but I imagine more expensive hoods have more lighting coverage. The actual fan has various settings and suits my needs for being a normal home cook. I imagine more expensive fans are bigger. I can't complain and I like the sound level for each of the fan settings.
I did not order the optional charcoal filters. The underside of the vent has three metal grates. They are very easy to remove for cleaning. That is a good design.
Overall this was a good buy. It came with a few challenges for the carpenters, fitting it into place just right and trying to align the top of the stack with our ceiling. But they got it and it works.
I don’t know what happened to my initial review, I’ve had this in since 2017 and I would buy it all over again. Absolutely love it. Love that it vents to the outside. After doing much research when we started our kitchen renovation, I wanted to make sure that we got a fan that would eliminate odors from cooking. This had such good reviews. With 4 speeds you can choose, it really does the job.
It cleans up so easy. I use Stainless Steel Wipes and put the vents in the dishwasher. I was scared at first to do this. I thought the dishwasher would make them discolor. Nope, just shiny & clean.
We’re getting ready to redo the kitchen at our beach house & this is the fan that will be going in it.
The reason I revisited this site was one of the lights went out and was looking where to purchase it. Says local big box home improvement store.

The vent looks and works great and feels really solid. It didn't require any wood framing, unlike many other models, according to the contractors who installed it.
My main complaint is that for a 10' high ceiling installation, our only option was to purchase a full extension for over $200, though we were only short about 2-3 inches. They should offer a shorter extension option for less money.
The vent baffles are removable and open up for easier cleaning. However, be very careful when hand scrubbing them as they're very sharp.
Looking for a new island hood and seems not too many choices. this style is good in appearance and 760CFM should be better than most others. After using several weeks, it's easy to clean the filters in dishwasher. Like other brands this style has quite big noise. Especially level 1 and level 3 sounds no big difference. Buttons in two side panels and easy to control, this is very unique. Help reducing odor smells in the kitchen.
Beautiful looking, works excellent to get rid of that cooking odor smell in our kitchen. It works great! It’s the quietest hood I’ve ever used.
