Replaced my glass cooktop with this, even though the glass one was on sale for less that week. I hope this will keep its looks longer than the glass one did. Even though I used the glass polish cleaner, it did not really keep the glass cooktop from showing its age, so I went for this one. It's great, heats quickly and evenly, a breeze to clean, centrally located dials give you more space for big pots and pans. I like the styling and it was a breeze to install, under 1/2 hour since it was the same size as my GE glass cooktop. No complaints. I hope it keeps its looks longer than the glass one. I cook daily, use the cooktop constantly in summer. Nothing but good results so far.
Updated: I originally thought it was my counter that was not level, but three of the burners are level and only one is not -- of course, it's the one I use most often so it's very aggravating. Quality control could be better.
Bought this GE unit to replace the exact same one which had given up the ghost after many years of service in a rental house I own. It endured heavy use and stood up well. I replaced the old unit with the same model because of this. The review gets two stars because the assemblers do shoddy work. Of the many screws and nuts that hold parts together inside the unit, some were missing, most needed tightening and one was loose in the box. I had to use screws from the old unit to replace the missing ones of the new unit.
I know this sounds like a minor detail. but believe me, holding open the unit's lid while trying to install relatively small screws, lock washers and nuts though sheet metal and hinge was a task for a three-handed person. Quality control is lacking wherever these units are being assembled.
After using this cook top for several weeks I am not feeling like I got my money's worth. This unit replaced an Amana four burner that was 15+ years old. I did convert this unit to LP, which was relatively painless with the supplied kit. The small burner (listed at 4000 BTU) which is stated to be able to simmer does no such thing. Anything you use it for boils, and when you adjust the flame from high to low, the visual appearance is barely noticeable on flame height. We didn't have this much of an issue with out old unit, which had a burner rating of 4500 BTU.
Dealing with customer service has been mixed, done via email only, dealing with broken English. They did not direct responses to what it was I was telling them, instead focusing on whether the regulator was converted or not. It took several emails back and forth to finally get the answers to their recommendation for adjusting the flame height: which, for the record, you have to unscrew each burner from the top of the unit & lift it off. Not easy as I had sealed the unit with caulk. While I was able to reduce the flame on the small burning, the large left front burner would not adjust whatsoever.
Also, the grates are already warping as pans will rock back & forth when in the center of a burner. I put oil in a skillet on the front burner & it rolled toward the back, toward the middle of the cook top. I thought maybe my counter was not level. Then I did the same with the burner directly behind: the oil rolled toward the front (again, center of the cook top) so the grates are bowed, evidently.
Empava did offer to replace the unit with a new one. However, I would have to pay the shipping for returning the old unit. As I live in OH & they are in CA, it would cost about 1/3 the retail price; and I may get another unit that's the same -- or possibly worse.
I gave it two stars overall because of the cheaper cost compared to bigger brand names. However, once again the old phrase is proven true: you get what you pay for.
It is good to see they are still making these type of units over the glass surface models. Easy to clean and works very well! No blemishes or scratching and installed with no issues. This product came in adequately packaged and ready with everything needed for installation. The instruction could be reviewed a bit, but there are plenty of resources on YouTube and GE’s website. It was a direct drop-in for a model that was presiously obsoleted. Thanks GE and Amazon!
I'm very pleased with the cooktop except there was a little ding on one corner. Not big enough to send back, and not surprised after another person had the same issue. I used a black marker to go over it and it's not really noticeable unless you inspect it closely. It fit perfectly in the cut out with no adjustments needed. I was a little leery about the color, but with the chrome burner pans and charcoal coils, it's just fine.

After 20 years the wires in an older model of this started to deteriorate. It's just as cheap to replace the whole thing. Works great.
Works great easy to clean. I love the look and size. I also paid at least 150.00 less purchasing from Amazon than if I had purchased at the local appliance store. Winning.
Heats up way quicker than our old glass top. Wife loves it, and now if she drops something on it , it wont crack like the previous 2 glass tops we have had .
