I did a lot of research before buying this hood. It's a Pro-Series with 4 speeds and at high speed (55 decibels) you can still have a normal volume conversation standing at the stove. Very heavy 19 gauge stainless steel - the hood weighs about 50 lbs. Mine came with halogen lights; I called them and for $20 they sent me the LED lights. I also ordered the optional stainless steel crown moulding to finish it off. This hood is definitely a focal point in my new kitchen with all the features I wanted and a 3-year warranty. You won't be disappointed.
I bought and installed this vent in my new house. It is pretty nice looking, and the suction power is great, especially at a level 3 or 4. No smoke escapes it from my gas range top. Installation was straight forward. I did end up ordering the ceiling trim to finish it up, but it was cosmetic only. The extender that came with the vent reached my ceiling fine. As others have mentioned the quality on this thing is spotty. The front corner joint area of mine came badly dented with a small dent, looks like it was hit hard by something small. Its a blemish from a distance, since its only about 1/2 inch long. Still, for this price, you'd expect quality. The other issue, as others have also mentioned, are the lights. On initial testing, before being mounted, both lights worked fine. Mine also came with LEDS, not halogen. After the vent was installed and used once, the lights flickered, then stopped working altogether. This was after one use that lasted maybe 20 minutes. Since it was already installed, I checked all the wiring before calling Z-line. To their credit, they immediately sent a full wiring harness replacement. That thing is NOT easy to change, but I did it piece by piece, instead of deconstructing all the electrical parts, in case it was something simple. That still didnt resolve the issue, so I called Z-line again and they sent the actual LED bulb/lamps. Once those were changed, everything worked well and has worked well since (about a month now, give or take). Should any other issues happen, I'll try and come back to this review, but overall I am still happy with the purchase. I needed a powerful vent for some serious cooking, and this keeps the entire house smoke and scent free. We did also install a 6" exterior vent, as you should. Recirculating a vent is kind of pointless. It is very loud at level 4, but any vent that has the actual motor in it is going to be loud. I would have given it 4 or 5 stars for ease of installation, but the back and forth to fix the lights knocked it down.
False advertisement, it does not suit a 9 foot ceiling (I have 9 foot ceilings), it is 16 inches too short and the extension piece (a 3rd piece) cost approx. $240.00 from Z line. The sheet metal is thin flimsy, is riddled with dents, and the wiring inside the hood vent is loosely hung, droops and rest on the filters. This unit looks good from a far, but a closer inspection makes me wish I have purchased a better quality $700.00 hood vent. Also, you need to be really good at installations to mount this thing and plan to upgrade the installation hardware, they sent the cheapest screws etc. they could find. This unit reminds me of a porcelain doll.
It looks good, was tricky to install, but fortunately for me, I had a contractor do the work. There was an issue with the filter frame weld broken loose from the main body, and contractor had to use sheet metal screws to ensure it was solidly connected to prevent rattling when running. The fan is easy to use, not nearly as complex as the last fan I had in terms of options which really were unnecessary; this has the basics including a 3 minute auto shutoff, the features I use are there. The 4 lights are adjustable (gimbal), and cover my 48" cooktop much better than my last fan - see photo. I wish the fan was quieter, it is noisier than I had expected, but so far have not found a powerful fan that was quiet. Overall I like the fan. I wish the vent filter frame welds were stronger/not broken, and fan was quieter, hence 3 stars. Functionally I would give it 4-5 stars.
Although the hood looked like it shows here, upon delivery and inspection, the stainless steel edges of the hood and extenders were subpar. On the edges they were marred where the welding finishing was completed. The stainless was pretty until about 1/2 inch before the edge. Then the the stainless steel lost its sheen. In addition, on the face of the 3-inch flat hood face by the buttons, there were some spots in the stainless steel. It was about the size of a nickel. It was not a spot that could be polished off. We were very disappointed, as we had read very positive reviews before ordering this product line. Before returning the hood, we went to a local furniture dealer and inspected hoods they had on display. On only one other brand did we see a little bit of this stainless steel marring. Consequently, we are going to order a completely different brand. We do not have time on the construction side to give Z Line another chance. On the positive side, the return to Amazon was seamless. The hood is on its way back, and upon delivery, Amazon is kindly refunding the entire cost. I appreciate the customer service.

I like that the hood is deep to catch the smoke while opening the lid. The fans have been good on level 2 or 3 to exhaust out the smoke and not let it onto to my patio ceiling. Price and quality are great. My grill is the Blaze 32'' and I was a little worried that I might hove too big of a hood, this is not the case and I am glad to have it a little over sized. My only issue is there is a rattle in the hood from the grease catch pans, located in side the hood. I hope to be able to add a remedy to make them quite.
