I bought this hood in August 2018 when my Zephyr hood motor ended and Zephyr told me that they can't just replace the motor--I needed a entirely new hood. I have waited almost a year to write a review just to see if everything is okay. There are some issues that I detail below. I was intrigued by the squirrel-cage motor on this hood that is like Vent-a-hood and the lifetime warranty on the motor offerd by Zline. Also, I was irritated by the high cost of kitchen hoods. I wanted to try something less expensive, but still good quality. The install went okay and we were able to raise the hood higher than the previous hood, which helps with people taller than me constantly hitting their heads! We had to install a separate plug for the hood, and this went okay, but involved cutting into our kitchen drop down island light bank. The hood worked fine until recently, 9-months post install. At first the lights and fan would just stop, like they were shorting out. They would both start again when I turned them back on. Then the lights themselves would start blinking, strobe-like. They would stop if I pressed three times and held the button in for about 5 seconds. Then that fix stopped working. I called Z-line customer service and they sent me a new light assembly, with a short-circuit protector. With no instructions. I was told to watch a Youtube video. I asked if this would also correct the fan going off and they said no, they would send me parts for that. So, I am waiting. I may try these repairs myself or I may just pay a contractor/electrician a few hundred dollars to put it all in. Even so, I will still be below the thousands of dollars I saved on the purchase price. So, here is my overall assessment at this time:
1. This is overall a well-made hood. The metal and motor are strong and it looks really nice. It is not super quiet, but to be honest, I don't know of a hood motor that really performs its task quietly.
2. I am concerned that there is no service provided in the 3-year warranty with the product. I wish I had noticed that. But again, with the cost savings of the purchase price, I can still have a professional install the replacement parts and be well under the purchase price of a more expensive kitchen hood.
Bottom line: if you want to save money and do not mind these hassles that may happen with a cheaper-priced product, this may be the hood for you. I accept that these adjustments might need to be made in a cheaper, but still well-made product. If you do not have the patience for these kind of niggling little fixes, it may be worth your while to pay the several thousands of dollars on the purchase price, rather than $700, for a kitchen hood that comes with good service warranty back-up. I am still happy with my purchase and will continue to update if that changes.
I would have given this a 5 star review; however, we discovered the hood two-piece ventilation outlet is sized for a 9 to 9 1/2 foot tall ceiling. You must order the ‘Short Kit’ in order to install this in a kitchen having an 8 to 8 1/2 foot ceiling. We had an inspection scheduled and could not wait extra days for the Short Kit to arrive, so my husband painstakingly cut/shortened the two-piece stainless steel hood and hanging brackets. Other than that major inconvenience, the hood performs beautifully and looks great above our 36” cooktop.
Very well engineered which results in an easy installation. Very pleased with the protective packaging and boxing of the unit. The unit seems well made and a quality product. Also, very happy with the plastic transition 6" vent that was provided for installation to the main ducting. It is both flexible and can be extended to approximately 60" so if your ducting is not perfectly aligned above the unit it allows for a great connection. The buyer should plan on needing several 6"-7" adjustable duct clamps as these are not provided by the manufacturer. Overall, I would recommend to others and I am quite happy with my purchase.
So to start off with is it does look pretty nice but all the button feel pretty cheap and flimsy so I hope they hold up. The other thing is they are saying it is stainless steel but a magnet sticks to it. Magnets don’t stick to stainless so either this isn’t stainless or it has a bunch of other metal in it to have a magnet stick which means it is not as durable and could rust or do some other weird stuff that non stainless will do. Not sure how they could advertise it as that. They also supply an acordian type vent tube with this that I don’t know of any code anywhere that would allow the use of it due to fire hazard and I also don’t think it is fire resistant or could hold up to any heat. They should not even supply it due to the danger. Hopefully it holds up and the packaging on it was really good so no shipping issues.
Great fit and finish, solid construction however it did produce a good “shock” as one of the light wires was unsheathed and resting on the metal. Found out the hard way when we got shocked while turning on the hood and resting your hand on the button. After looking for the cause, simply wrapping the exposed wire with electrical tape mitigated the issue. QC Check could be a little better before these leave the factory.

The vent looks and works great and feels really solid. It didn't require any wood framing, unlike many other models, according to the contractors who installed it.
My main complaint is that for a 10' high ceiling installation, our only option was to purchase a full extension for over $200, though we were only short about 2-3 inches. They should offer a shorter extension option for less money.
The vent baffles are removable and open up for easier cleaning. However, be very careful when hand scrubbing them as they're very sharp.
Looking for a new island hood and seems not too many choices. this style is good in appearance and 760CFM should be better than most others. After using several weeks, it's easy to clean the filters in dishwasher. Like other brands this style has quite big noise. Especially level 1 and level 3 sounds no big difference. Buttons in two side panels and easy to control, this is very unique. Help reducing odor smells in the kitchen.
Beautiful looking, works excellent to get rid of that cooking odor smell in our kitchen. It works great! It’s the quietest hood I’ve ever used.
