We purchase the 36" stainless steel hoods for use in apartment units, they look nice out of the box but the last 3 we have purchased have had the following issues: 2 motors died(just stopped working) within 8 weeks, 1 came perfectly boxed(no shipping damage) with a 2" ding/dent on the flat front surface near the controls. I appreciate the look and low cost but I'm getting tired of installing them and fixing them within 60 days. Might be time to step up to a higher quality unit, these seem to be slipping in recent months. Buyer beware, we bought a total of 6 of these in 2018 so 50% were below average and had issues.
Installed the Broan 42000 series Economy vented hood today. I removed a late 80"S Nutone Economy vented hood. The vertical outlet cutout had to be moved forward approx. 1/2 inches using the new vent as the template, after removing the fan motor and marking the cutout from below through the flange. The mounting screws actually lined up with the existing holes. The wiring knockout lined up like the old vent. I am pleased so far with operation of the new vent and the appearance matches the stainless upgrade to my kitchen.
When I first got it, it fit well into the old Frigidaire hood space carved into the cabinets. This is a rental unit for my father, so I wasn't installing something more expensive. The landlord installed it. I was concerned that it didn't seem to pull up the cooking steam and grease as well as others reported, but it was acceptable. Now the fan stopped working, though the light still functions. The landlord says the fan switch is broken. This hood is not heavily used, as my dad has full time caregivers preparing simple meals for him. The hood still looks good, but the switch clearly no longer turns on the fan. Because I didn't install it, I can't say whether it's wholly a quality issue, or if something happened during installation. It is not from over use or abuse. We'll see how that limited 1 year warranty works out.
First time I’m buying something used / open box and I must say this came like new.
When I first got it I was looking for scratches / dents but couldn’t find any. I had to go again on Amazon to make sure I selected the open box / used and I did.
$20 and works like a king ! Easy installation, had all
the parts.

Excellent range hood! I got some help installing it, and the only problem they had is the duct hole allignment has changed a tad in 20 years...
My house was built in 1962, and the last time the hood was changed was around 1997. The hood hole moved forward about a half inch on this model, so it wouldn't align with my duct until my neighbor doing the install tweaked the exhaust pipe hole about a half inch. Luckily he had a jigsaw!
The end result is great, and I am still glad I bought it. It is nice having a hood that matches my stove-- the price was very reasonable and the delivery time was great.

Excellent product for an economy purchase overall. Not loud on low or high w/ great ventilation, hence, serves purpose. 2 negative issues are minor and could easily be improved are😉:
1). Instructions could be simplified and "TOOL LIST" should include wire connector caps.
2). GREASE "CATCH" SCREEN bows or bends inward toward & touches fan which prevents fan spin could cause novice installer reason to return. Highly suggest including an upgraded grease screen by adding cross-guard between motor or take up the "slack" during screen creation by your suppliers.

If I had known the underside looked like this I would have ordered something else. But, the vent itself works fine. Just don't like the looks of this.
Had a small dent in it that I didn’t notice right off hand. Installer was already here so up it went. My house is older and there were some modifications required for the vent pipe. This was on me, not the hood so I gave it 5 stars for install because it would have been easy if no modifications were required.
I do NOT like that the fan is so weak. I’m not even really sure the smoke/heat/grease is making it to the roof. This fan is better suited for a vent that goes out the side of the house behind the stove. That’s the reason for the 3 star value rating, the fan could be stronger.
Basic and economical - perfect for our project.
The design is a little odd since the fan is angled toward the back but the duct exhaust is straight out the top, meaning the fan isn't blowing inline into the exhaust pipe.
Also, there are little openings where the pressure of the fan partially blows back out instead of up into the exhaust pipe. I taped these closed with mastic foil tape.
Lastly, the fan blades aren't nicely centered with the opening. In my case, the blade touched the edge of the opening and I had to bend things here and there to keep it from rubbing.
Item arrived damaged, didn't have time to exchange it because contractor was on a tight deadline.
Side note - recommend you use foil mastic tape for all your duct work installation, not the regular foil tape.
Would give it 4 stars if it weren't for the damage.
Great unit. This was a conversion from the original white 60's unit that was in the condo. Would of given it 5 stars but needed to know that I need a 7" to 4" reducer for the fan coupling to the body of the unit. No big deal as I did a 7 to 6 and 6 to 4" combo as home depot didn't have a straight 7 to 4". Had I known that, I could of sourced at a mechanical supplier and save a few bucks. All in all, very straight forward install and appliance looks great. S.S. to match the kitchen :-) task complete.
