Great looking range hood, and not too expensive! This is easy to replace on your own. Here are the steps I took:1: turn power off at breaker box, make sure you are certain power is off before proceeding. 2: unscrew little black screw holding metal cover that the light wires come out of to expose wires 3: on old unit, unscrew wiring nuts on white, black wires and loosen ground screw 4: loosen four screws under cabinet holding old vent in place, move old unit aside 5: on new unit use flathead screw driver to bend out wiring plug on the hole wiring will pass through- just insert screw driver and rock back and forth until it pops loose. Look at the old unit to find which one to remove 6: hang unit by four screws in corner (see my photo) 7: hook wiring up just like your old one, white to white, black to black, etc. 8. Screw wiring cover in place with one black screw 9: installold light bulb (I used the one from my old unit. 10: turn power on and test unit, both fan and light. 11: step back and marvel at how much money you saved by doing it yourself, and revel in the praise from your spouse or significant other.
This might seem intimidating but it was easy. One didn't come with a light bulb so get one on hand. The filter mine came with seemed nicer than others, it had a metal front and blue filter material on the back. The fan isn't super strong but I bought this for looks mostly. Hopefully this review is helpful, I didn't get anything for writing it and paid for this product myself.
We purchased this hood for a full kitchen remodel. I would have liked to have one that is vented to the outside but due to the kitchen design, it would have been expensive and would have resulted the project not being a do it yourself job. The installation was easy. Any experienced do-it-yourselfer should not have any issues with the installation. The shipping was super fast! As far as the performance, the fan does a great job of moving air and filtering it. It prevents the steam from escaping all over the kitchen and does a decent job of filtering out odors, however, not as well as a fan that is vented externally but that is to be expected.
More like 4.5 stars. Simple, pretty, light, and fairly easy to install. We really wanted a nice ducted system, but I just lost gumption and didn't want to fork out $700 for a low-end ducted system. This is a great lazy, cost-conscious choice. We use it ductless. Relatively quiet. Almost wish the high setting were a little more powerful, but it's good for pulling most of the steam and smoke up. Make sure it's not much more than 24 inches above the stove. It doesn't come with a plug, so you either have to hardwire it (that's where installation could get tricky, especially if you had to re-route wires), or get a pigtail plug like I did. A pigtail is a like an extension cord with a three-pronged plug at one end and 3 wires at the other end to connect to the hood wires (black, white, and ground). Then you can just plug it into an outlet instead of hardwiring--which also means drilling a 1-inch hole into the shelf you're going to attach the hood to so that the wire can come through.
It needs a completely flat shelf/surface above it to screw into. Four short screws hold it in place. It's just a titch (1/8 inch) under 30 inches wide, so if you have exactly 30 inches to fit into, it'll go. The control panel comes out to 12 inches, flush with a standard 12-inch deep cabinet.
This is an exact replacement for the Kenmore range hood that was put in my house 15 years ago. Obviously made in the same factory because it is identical in every aspect. That made it super easy to swap it out in 15 minutes. I was upgrading from white to stainless steel and this did the trick for matching our new oven. A lot of reviews mention the fan is noisy and the light cover is unattractive. This is not a high-end hood for chefs - it is your average range hood for middle class people who just want a basic range hood. I'm 6 feet tall and I can't see my light bulb cover when I stand in front of it. If I were shorter, I would be able to see the plastic light bulb cover, but that wouldn't bother me. The fan sounds like a standard cheaper fan so it isn't really quiet, but that isn't important to me for a nice looking range hood at this price point. If you can hear the fan running, it means somebody is cooking. That's a good thing!
Looks nice for the price and was easy to install with zero experience in under 30 min.

So I moved into an old house wish a partially functioning kitchen. It took me the better part of a day to de-grease the entire kitchen, even the inside of the cabinets, from decades of the prior owner cooking greasy stuff in the kitchen without a hood. I decided I would never cook a grease generating type of food until I had a range hood, but what to do?
Well, for years I lived in a house with my ex (not my ex then) and we had one of these cheap Broan hoods. We did all kinds of cooking, and the kitchen did not accumulate a layer of grease, so when I found this hood on Amazon dot com, I bought it, and I bought the power cord adapter that allowed me to plug it into the wall.
I did something not aesthetically normal but effective: I used the four holes in the back of the hood to bolt it into the wall. I bought inch-and-a-half long screws that were as thick as possible and still go through the holes in the back of the hood along with wall anchors for them. I found a stud on the left and mounted the hood into those, with the holes on the right used to screw the hood into the plaster. Thanks to the left side being screwed right into the stud, this hood isn't going anywhere.
So, I cooked my first steak yesterday by searing it in a pan and finished it in the oven. This hood sucked up what came up off the pan and filtered it and blew it out just fine. That was the first steak I've had in almost a year (I rarely buy steak in restaurants). Prime rib in my new old kitchen, thanks to this Broan hood.
Nice looking hood but the fan is useless. Also came with a filter. However no where does it give you the filter model number for future. It is S97007696 for those who need it. Can be found on Amazon because I ordered one and it's same as what was in hood.
Great range hood that suits the requirements of our kitchen. Looks great and works great as we've already installed it. Light is a bit dim, but overall we're happy with this purchase. Shipping was a bit of a nightmare. This package kept being held by Putolator for reasons that were never explained, however, we kept receiving emails indicating that our action was required to get this package back on track!?!?!? ! It did arrive on the latest possible date specified by Purolator. Product itself, is a very nice upgrade for our kitchen and looks great with our flat black cabinet hardware and accents. Price is great!
This hood vent was fairly easy to install. I’m a reno rookie and was able to instal it myself. Though the instructions aren’t very good. And as others have stated, the fan is VERY weak. I love that it’s quiet, but it does not do a good job sucking up the vapour and air while cooking. So if you’re looking for something powerful, looks elsewhere.
