Wanted a hood range with a European “look”to it to go with my new Samsung stove. After doing a lot of research I kept coming back to the cosmo. The price didn’t break my bank account and was exactly what I pictured for my kitchen. My husband is a professional handyman and skilled at installing appliances; I did have to assist him as it required more than one set of hands to install. We replaced a 33 year old hood range that was put in when our house was built; it was wired in, ... the cosmo hood range came with a standard plug in which required him to adapt the built in wire ends (in our house) and attach a standard house 2 plug socket. If you are not skilled at this sort of thing, you need to hire a professional. After we got it installed, it looked gorgeous and exceeded my expectations. Attached are pictures.
The hood itself looks nice, and definitely moves adequate air without being particularly loud. The push-buttons on the front feel a little cheap/loose, but at less than $90 it’s not enough to complain about.
My one significant gripe is in regard to the installation instructions and hardware provided. The only included hardware is 4 drywall screws, but (since this is an under cabinet hood) I’d assume most people plan to install it to a cabinet rather than drywall. Since the holes are pre-drilled, there’s no way to guarantee (or avoid) securing to a stud, and I don’t trust drywall anchors to hold a device that weighs several pounds.
There are instructions provided for hanging from a cabinet, but the instructions explicitly show running the bolts upwards from within the hood- which would leave you with a significant length of screw/bolt sticking up into you cabinet. You’ll also need to drill a separate hole for the plug- this is not mentioned. I used a 1” spade bit and that gave me just enough room as there’s no way to temporarily remove the plug to put the smaller end of the cord through later.
I ended up using the drywall anchors, but still drilled a separate bolt and washer (M5 fits) to help support, and to reduce the sag of the front side.
I’d go 4 stars, but the installation issues are frustrating.
We haven’t moved into the house yet, so I’ll update this in a few months after some use.
I'm going to give this range 3 stars. First of all let me tell you why I chose this range:
1) It is one of the few ranges that fit my dimensions of 36-inch width with a height no taller than 8-inches. I didn't want that European look with the super tall range.
2) It is stainless steel to match kitchen appliances
3) It is under $100 to keep me on budget
Installation was a breeze. The unit itself is surprisingly light (feels almost cheap to hold). Only 4 screws were required to mount. The trickiest part was adding a duct reducer. My duct vent was 7" and this came with a 4-inch duct adaptor. So I had to reduce from 7 to 6, then from 6 to 5, and then from 5 to 4. Overall it fit just fine.
Now my issues with the fan. The fan itself does not suck air very well. It is a pretty weak fan compared to the default fan that came with my 15-year old house. The lights are in the back and they are the white LED lights. I replaced the lights with the warmer incandescent lights and that made a huge difference. However, for the main function which is to remove the smell and suck up air, this fan needs to be super-charged.
The width is as advertised to be exactly 35.2 inches so there will be a gap on your cabinet doors. I knew this before buying but it does not look too bad with the gaps.
Will update after a few months of use. I will do a bacon and garlic test and return with some of those tests.
Great range hood for the money! Design and functionality are great. Lighting and fan work as described. Looks great with all stainless appliances. Hood is tapered from back to front and looks like the front is slightly pointing up after installation. This would have been a 5 star review except for installation. It is pre-drilled with 4 holes in the top and 2 in the back. If you're the lucky type, you may not have to alter you're install. I had to drill holes to match my setting. Not a problem, just a delay. IMPORTANT: This unit comes with a standard 3 prong plug. If the unit you're replacing is hard wired, you will have to install a common 15A outlet. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this purchase.
Looks great and installation was not that difficult. It matched our existing GE stainless appliances perfectly. I love the lighting that it provides to our range top and it is quieter than our previous microwave/fan. Has three fan speeds. I did an under cabinet installation using duct out the top. The only weird thing was that the duct outlet from the fan is 4.5" diameter and I could not find duct piping in that size at our local hardware store. I ended up buying some 4" semi flexible dryer vent pipe which adapted close enough to the fan outlet duct as well as my 4" to 6" converter pipe (existing duct in my cabinet was 6"). Used metal tape to seal the joints.

Shipped fine. Attractive but useless. Fan works fine in all settings but very Loud. Installed ventless with round filter. ( be sure you set inside collar to room vent side) Round front lets steam from 1 qt pot curl over it when fan on high. Also sucks only half of steam up, sending too much to sides and cabinets. ( will result in damage) Much better suction if round filter not in place or if set to vent position. One inventive handy person installed it but two really needed. 3 watt led bulbs located in rear are uselessly dim to see what is cooking & color is ghastly green blue something. You can't see color of food even if were bright enuf. Mfg advises no more than 3watt bulbs. Tried 2 spiral 13 w 60's but location so far back they are usless except to light up backsplash. I would return it but its up, handyman gone & he broke up carton in garbage. Will buy one on approval locally next year & garage sale this pretty but useless item.
Because this unit has a plug not hard wired like our previous hood, we had alot of work to add a plug inside cupboard above...
I was disappointed about the noise level on high...as it had had good ratings for noise, the suction seems good but I have yet to really test this...the light not very bright or in a great place.
